About Sondrio
Sondrio is an Italian town and comune placed in the coronary heart of the Valtellina. As of 2012, Sondrio counts about 21,876 population and it's far the executive centre for the province of Sondrio. In 2007, Sondrio was given the Alpine Town of the Year award. Formerly an Ancient Roman military camp, modern Sondrio was based through the Lombards: of their language Sundrium intended "Exclusive property", referring to the status of guys of the holders of the town and the encompassing land. After the autumn of the Lombard Kingdom in Italy, Sondrio became part of the Holy Roman Empire.
The Capitanei of Vizzola, who controlled a great deal of the Valtellina, had it in 1040 from the emperor Henry II. From 1310 to 1335 the town become concerned inside the warfare among the Guelph and Ghibelline factions of the nearby Como, and its struggle towards Milan. After having resisted numerous attacks via the Comaschi, in 1335 Sondrio and Valtellina became a part of the Visconti Milanese dominions.
