Thirumuruganpoondi is a panchayat town in Tirupur District in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is around 38 kilometers west from Coimbatore city. The place gets its name from the Thirumuruganatheeswar Temple present in the town. The name of the town is gotten from the acclaimed Murugan sanctuary situated here. Over the most recent 8 years the improvement of Tirupur had achieved Thirumuruganpoondi and soon this town will be submerged under the more extensive name of Tirupur.
The sanctuary goes back to ninth Century. The starting point of the sanctuary is established in amazing relic. Soorapadma, the scourge of the divine beings with his entourage of evil presences, struck dread in the heavenly world with his sudden thefts and battles. The oppressed divine beings moved toward Lord Siva and beseeched him to spare their lives.
Ruler Siva sent Lord Subramanya with a tremendous armed force headed by the valiant Veerabhahu to obliterate Soorapadma and his entourage. Ruler Muruga achieved the burdensome errand. Be that as it may, he was beset with the mortal sin of mass slaughtering. With a specific end goal to exonerate himself he introduced a Siva Linga in Thirumuruganpoondi and adored it. As Muruga himself loved Lord Siva, the last accepted the handle "Thirumuruganathaswamy" which signifies "Ace of Muruga".
