About Ganseliesel

The Ganseliesel is a fountain which was raised in 1901 before the medieval town lobby of Gattingen, Germany. Albeit somewhat little in size, the wellspring is the most notable milestone of the city. Today, it is a fundamental piece of graduation festivities, for each understudy who completes a doctorate at the George August University Gottingen needs to climb the wellspring and kiss the statue of the goose girl. A Ganseliesel is likewise arranged in Monheim am Rhein, Hanover's Steintor Square and Berlin's Nikolsburger Square.

Since the 18th century, a wellspring was situated on the site of the Ganseliesel. In any case, the old wellspring was incompletely pulled down in the mid 19th century because of weakening. In 1898, the city board chose to develop another wellspring, for which stone workers from all over Germany exhibited their recommendations. From all plans, the neo-gothical proposition "Im Geiste der Alten/Tugendbrunnen" by the artists Mehs and Jehs was favored while the goose young lady structure by the engineer Heinrich Stockhardt was just positioned second spot.
