About Frechen
Frechen is a town inside the Rhein-Erft-Kreis, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Frechen was first mentioned in 877. It is situated at the western Cologne metropolis border. It is the website of the 1257 Battle of Frechen among Conrad von Hochstaden, Archbishop of Cologne and the people of the city. In the sixteenth century it received a name for its terra cotta artifacts, mainly the "Bartmannskrug". In the past due 18th century lignite was industrially mined.
Digging for lignite dominated the town's financial system until the stop of the 20 th century. In 1891 the first briquette manufacturing facility become opened. On 2 September 1951 Frechen received its town-rights along with the villages of Bachem, Hücheln and Buschbell. On 1 January 1975 the close by villages of Grefrath, Habbelrath, Konigsdorf and Neufreimersdorf had been additionally integrated. From the Nineteen Eighties onwards an increasing number of commercial, industrial and service corporations choose Frechen as their area, in order that the city changed its functions notably.
