About Erlensee
Erlensee is a municipality within the Main-Kinzig district, in Hesse, Germany. It is situated at the river Kinzig, 5 km northeast of Hanau. It changed into formed in 1970 by means of the merger, in 1970, of the towns of Langendiebach and Ruckingen. The call deduces from the abundant alders on the lakes on this area. Ruckingen changed into first stated in 1173 as "Rukkingin". Langendiebach was first stated in 1226 as "Dyppach". In 1937 the Luftwaffe constructed an airfield referred to as Langendiebach Fliegerhorst.
World War II limited plans to amplify it into a bigger airfield. Glider and nightfighter gadgets of the German Air Force stationed here participated in the 1939 invasion of Poland and the 1944-45 protection of Germany towards allied invasion. Multiple bombings by way of allied forces rendered the airfield unserviceable via the conflict's give up. Under the name Fliegerhorst Kaserne American forces occupied the facilities from 1945 till 2007 with artillery, aviation, ordnance, quartermaster, transportation, meteorological, and army police devices.
