About Duisburg
Duisburg is a city of approximately 500,000 population in Germany’s Rhineland, on the confluence of the Rhine and the Ruhr. In medieval times, it was a member of the effective Hanseatic League, and later became a first-rate centre of iron, steel, and chemical substances. For this purpose, it became closely bombed in World War II. Today it boasts the world's largest inland port, with 21 docks and forty kilometres of wharf. The metropolis supports a massive Turkish network. Duisburg is a city in Germany’s Rhineland, the fifth biggest of the kingdom’s maximum populous federal kingdom of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Its 499,845 population rank after Cologne, Dusseldorf, Dortmund and Essen, and make it Germany's 15th biggest metropolis. Located on the confluence of the Rhine river and its tributary the Ruhr river, it lies within the west of the Ruhr city location, Germany's largest, of which it is the 0.33 biggest metropolis after Dortmund and Essen. The Ruhr itself lies inside the larger Rhine-Ruhr Metropolitan Region, one of Europe's biggest conurbations. The city lies on both facets of the Rhine, with the town centre and maximum boroughs at the river's right bank, and is the best town of the Rhine-Ruhr location lying on both the Rhine and Ruhr rivers.
