About Bensheim
Bensheim is a city inside the Bergstraße district in southern Hesse, Germany. Bensheim lies at the Bergstrabe and at the threshold of the Odenwald mountains even as on the identical time having an open view over the Rhine plain. With approximately 40,000 population, it is the district's largest town. Bensheim has grown out of a village that had its first documentary mention in the 8th century. In the 14th century, Bensheim was granted city rights. On 26 March 1945, an awful lot of the Old Town became destroyed by incendiary bombs. The South Hesse place became settled quite early on.
The many finds from archaeological digs stretch back to the time of the Linear Pottery and Corded Ware cultures, peoples who raised vegetation and cattle. In 765, Basinsheim had its first documentary point out within the Lorsch Abbey’s Codex Laureshamensis. Its founding may match lower back to a knight named Basinus, who obtained the rights to found a agreement. The name modified from Basinsheim to Basinusheim after which to Besensheim, subsequently turning into Bensheim. Noteworthy is that city rights have been granted early on by Emperor Otto I on five March 956. It can be inferred from the file text that Otto I, at the occasion of his live in Frankfurt am Main, together with his spouse Adelheid’s intervention, awarded the Lorsch Abbey’s oldest market privilege.
