About Babenhausen
Babenhausen is a town inside the Darmstadt Dieburg district, in Hesse, Germany. The town of Babenhausen includes a medieval center with a citadel 12th to 13th century, severa old homes and a large part of the city wall. Babenhausen became chartered as a metropolis in 1295. It belonged first to the Lords of Hagen Munzenberg and become after the last male descendant of this circle of relatives died inherited by means of the Lords of Hanau within the 13th century.
In 1458 a minor line of them first called Hanau-Babenhausen, later known as Hanau-Lichtenberg founded a county they had received the name of Graf Count in 1429 on its very own within the city and its district. In 1736 the final of the circle of relatives died and the two potential inheritors, the Landgraves of Hesse-Darmstadt and of Hesse Kassel or Hesse Cassel nearly went to war over it. It took 35 years to settle the struggle and to arrange a compromise below which the city of Babenhausen came to Hesse Kassel.
