The yearly Dick Goddard Woollybear Festival is held each Fall in downtown Vermilion, Ohio, on Lake Erie. The one-day, family occasion, which started in 1973, highlights a wooly bear outfit challenge in which kids, even pets, are spruced up as different versions of the wooly bear caterpillar. The celebration is held each year around October 1 on a Sunday on which the Cleveland Browns have an away diversion. It is touted as the biggest one-day celebration in Ohio.
