       Guwahati, known by the name Gauhati in the past, is a rambling city in the Kamrup Metropolitan district in the lower region of Assam state of northeast India, situated on the south bank of the Brahmaputra River and the foothills of the Shillong plateau. This city is also known by the nicknames: Gateway to Northeast India, City of Temples, and Pragjyotishpura Light of the East.  Guwahati has a humid subtropical climate, having a pleasant average annual temperature of 22.20C and extreme temperature not going too high. It is one of the fastest growing cities in India.
