Things To Do In Kaziranga

Kaziranga, a town in Assam is famous for its National park- A world heritage site and home to 2/3rd of world’s population of unicorn rhinoceros. A must visit for tourists who are nature and history lovers, here are a few must do things when in Kaziranga-
Kaziranga National Park- This biggest wildlife reserve in Assam offers one of the best wildlife experiences in the country. The wildlife reserve is one of the top ten most visited parks in India. It stretches over 400 sq km and is situated on the banks of Brahmaputra. Along with the famous one-horn rhinoceros, elephants, jungle cats, and hog deer. In winters, this national wildlife reserve is home to migrating parks.
Kaziranga National Orchid and Bio Diversity Park- This one of a kind bio diversity park is situated in Durgapur village and is the latest pride of Kaziranga. Out of 1300 species of orchids found in India, 500 alone are found in this park. This bio-diversity park is brain child of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti and consists of green house, flower garden and rice museum and fish pond. This park offers a chance to the tourists to spend a peaceful evening in the lap of nature.
Panbari Reserve Forest- A forest reserve spanning over 10 sq km, this wildlife reserve is situated near Kaziranga National Park and hosts rare species of animals, birds and vegetation.

Places To See In Kaziranga

Gohpur- Famous for being the birthplace of the freedom fighter Kanaklata Barua, this town is located around 8 kms away from the Kaziranga National Park. Other major attractions in the town are Gohpur Reserve Forest and Bor Pukhri.
Kakochang Falls- Located 13 kms away from Kaziranga National Park and is a famous picnic spot in Assam. Tourists visiting these falls are also treated to views of Numaligarh Ruins and Tea landscapes of Hathkhuli and Defalu region.
Kalyani Mandir- Founded by King Arimatta, this temple is thronged by thousands of devotes all throughout the year. The principal deity of the temple is Goddess Kalyani and is a must visit for people visiting Kaziranga.
Deoparbat ruins- one of the must visit place for history lovers, this tourist attraction is the ruins of an ancient temple and gives a peek into the history along with the views of Numaligarh Tea Estate and Karbi Anglong hills.

Food And Shopping In Kaziranga

FOOD
When it comes to food in Kaziranga, there aren’t many options. There are small restaurants, dhabas which tend wonderfully to the need of the tourists. Along with enjoying typical North Indian, Chinese and continental food, tourists can also relish traditional Assamese dishes like Laksa, Khar and Tenga along with other fish delicacies. Wild Grass Lodge and Leima Manipuri Dhaba are a must visit for food lovers.
SHOPPING
There isn’t much to shop in Kaziranga, but for shopaholics a small iety of forest made products and local handicrafts available which they can take back home.

How To Reach Kaziranga

BY BUS
Regular state and private bus services operate from major towns like Guwahati, Tezpur and Jorhat for Kaziranga. The buses are not luxurious in nature but simple and basic.
BY TAXI
Kaziranga is around 5 hours drive away from Guwahati and is well linked to national highways. The roads are well constructed and several private cab services operate between Kaziranga and other major nearby places.
BY TRAIN
Being one of the most visited places in Assam, Kaziranga is well connected by rail. Several direct train operate from delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, cochin and other major cities all across the country to Guwahati which is mere 200 kms away from Kaziranga.
One can also take a train to Jorhat and then reach Kaziranga by a bus or cab.
BY AIR
Kaziranga itself doesn’t have a airport, but its proximity to Guwahati and Jorhat makes it accessible through air. Direct flights operate from all across the country to Guwahati from where you can take a cab or bus to reach Kaziranga. Private charter planes can land near the Kaziranga National Park.

Elephant safari and the culrural show

Our experience was great. Elephant ride was the best part for us. Try to take the first slot 5:20AM to 6AM for better sighting of Rhinos. Safari ride was the most boring part of our trip.
