About Dianchi Lake

Dianchi Lake, otherwise called Lake Dian and Kunming Lake, is a vast lake situated on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau near Kunming, Yunnan, China. Its moniker is the "Shining Pearl Embedded in a Highland" and it was the model for the Kunming Lake in the Summer Palace in Beijing. Its name is the wellspring of Yunnan's Chinese shortened form. It is a freshwater blame lake at 1,886.5 m 6,189 ft above ocean level. The lake covers 298 km2 115 sq mi.

It is 39 km 24 mi long from north to south, and the normal profundity is 4.4 m 14 ft. It is the 8th biggest lake in China and the biggest in Yunnan Province. Dianchi Lake was the site of the capital of the free kingdom of the Cuan amid the main thousand years AD. Around then, it was known as Kunchuan.
