Museum of the History of Medicine

Museum of the History of Medicine in Varna was established in 1985. It is housed in a beautiful building - a monument of culture, dating back to the years before Liberation of Bulgaria from the Ottoman rule.

The building was constructed in 1869 as a charity hospital and was always used for health needs.The museum consists of 3 halls where is traced the history and the development of medicine since ancient times to the present days.

During the war, As well as a hospital, it was used as a base on an anti-rabies and a bacteriology station, the predecessor of today's Regional Inspectorate for Protection and Control of Public Health. Here was created also the Varna maternity hospital.
