Named after the legendary ruler Julius Ceasar, Julian Alps run from Italy and culminates in north-western region of Slovenia. The highest peak in this range is Triglav mountain that rises to a height of 2864 m above sea level. For its beauty and grandeur, it has been chosen as the national symbol of Slovenia. One of the most important attraction of these ranges is Triglav National Park. Conserved since 1924, Triglav National park is one of the few national parks in the country. The range offers splendid opportunities for skiing during winter. Slovenia has great fishing scope in fast alpine rivers and lakes, meadow streams and lower mountain rivers. Some of the best preserved fishing regions are on the Soca, Sava, Radnova, Krka and Unec rivers.
