About West Glamorgan
West Glamorgan is a preserved county and previous administrative county of Wales, one of the divisions of the ancient county of Glamorgan. West Glamorgan became created on 1 April 1974, by way of the Local Government Act 1972 from the county borough of Swansea, the municipal boroughs of Neath and Port Talbot, the urban districts of Glyncorrwg and Llwchwr, Gower Rural District, Pontardawe Rural District, and all of Neath Rural District besides the parish of Rhigos. From 1982, the primary council offices had been located in County Hall, Swansea. West Glamorgan had 4 districts, as follows Swansea, Swansea CB and Gower RDLliw Valley Llwchwr and Pontardawe RDNeath – Neath and Neath RDPort Talbot – Port Talbot and Glyncorrwg.
Following the Local Government Wales Act 1994, West Glamorgan and its thing districts had been abolished on 1 April 1996, the place being divided into the 2 unitary government of Swansea and Neath and Port Talbot later modified to Neath Port Talbot Lliw Valley turned into partitioned between the 2 government. A West Glamorgan preserved county was created for the restricted functions of Lieutenancy and High Shrievalty.
