About Polaria

Polaria is the world's most northerly aquarium. It is situated in Tromso, in northern Norway. As opposed to a predominantly logical aquarium, for example, the one in Bergen in the Norwegian midlands, Polaria, which opened in May 1998, is intended to be an instructive affair, with specific accentuation on shows for youngsters. Most of the displays focus on the northerly islands of Svalbard. There is a five-screen all encompassing silver screen, an "Ice Walkway" zone containing presentations of polar investigation hardware, plush toys and recreated permafrost, numerous ordinary aquaria showing nearby marine life and additionally open tanks and show tanks containing rock-shore creatures, infant angle and other tyke cordial displays.

Its highlight is an open pool containing a gathering of unshaven seals, Erignathus barbatus. These are prepared and there are normal showcases, as much to keep the creatures dynamic and sound with respect to open amusement. The seal walled in area has perception rankles set into its sides, with the goal that guests can gaze toward the creatures from underneath, and a submerged walkway in a straightforward passage over the base, enabling close access to the creatures in their indigenous habitat. The building itself is likewise deserving of note. Its striking outline speaks to ice floes that have been squeezed up ashore by the unpleasant oceans of the Arctic.
