Chagni

Chagni is a metropolis in North Western Ethiopia. Located inside the Agew Awi Zone of the Amhara Region, this metropolis has a longitude and latitude of 10°57′N 36°30′E and an elevation of 1583 meters above sea level. It is the workplace of Guangua woreda; within the past Chagni changed into the workplace of the Metekel awraja.

The British explorer Charles Beke visited Chagni on its market day, 17 March 1842, and determined the metropolis inhabited in most cases by using Shankalas who are negroes, who fled at his appearance out of fear: first-rate tall muscular guys, armed with spear and knife, hurrying away and hiding themselves many of the timber as I approached. In the 1950s, Chagni became administered by using Fitawrari Embiale Gessess, and the witnesses says that contemporary town of Chagni become integrated by using him, and he is a father of Gebeyaw Embiale, cited beneath. Chagni changed into on the frontier between ethnic agencies who have been frequently in warfare: the Gumuz and the Amhara. The Gumuz reportedly rebelled towards Ethiopian rule four separate instances among 1950 and 1990.
