With the continuous high-success of the e-tourist visa scheme, the Union Tourism Ministry of India is planning for extending online visa facility to 36 more countries including Egypt, Italy, Nigeria, and Iran among others. The proposal of the scheme already has been sent near the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs for approval.
If the proposal gets accepted, total numbers of 186 countries will now be able to access online visa to travel to India. The countries that have been shortlisted for this scheme are Qatar, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Nigeria, Turkey, Italy, Maldives, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Morocco and Kazakhstan. The online visa scheme that was first launched in November 2013 has been steadily expanding and becoming a popular alternative for tourists. Tourism Ministry data shows that a total number of 4,71,909 tourists arrived India on e-tourist visa during January- June 2016, which is an outstanding achievement for govt.

Over the past few years, the tourism industry has increased in India. The rich culture, festivals, tradition and national heritage of India attract a lot of foreign tourists. So to provide convenience to the foreign visitors India government launched E tourist Visa in November 2014. For nine Indian airports and 43 countries, E tourist Visa facility was made available. Further, this E-visa facility was extended in the year 2015 to some other countries even. A list of 76 countries total comes under this service and government plans to increase it to 150.
