It is a city in Galveston County in the U.S. province of Texas. Situated on the southwest shoreline of Galveston Bay, Texas City is a bustling deepwater port on Texas' Gulf Coast, and in addition an oil refining and petrochemical producing focus. It is a piece of Houston– The Woodlands– Sugar Land metropolitan territory.
The city is prominent as the site of a noteworthy blast in 1947 that pulverized the port and about demolished the city. Three duck seekers in 1891 noticed that an area along Galveston Bay, referred to locally as Shoal Point, could turn into a noteworthy port. Reef Point had existed since the 1830s, when veterans of the Texas Revolution 1835-1836 were granted land for their administrations.
