About Sumiswald
Sumiswald is a municipality in the administrative district, Switzerland. It is mostly known for the manufacturing location of the Swiss Railway watch. After the collapse of the Republic and the 1803 Act Mediation, it joined the newly created Trachevalwald District. In the 19th century local yarn and textile industry declined and it was replaced by other industries, including making musical instruments. Construction of Immental Road in 1875, Ramsay-Hattville Railroad in 1908 and Sumiswald-Wassen Rail line in 1915 brought new factories and industries to the municipality.
Today Sumiswald is a regional cultural and economic center in which the workers come from the surrounding villages to the municipality. There are secondary schools in Sumiswald and Wassen as well as a retirement home. Gastroof Baren Barren Inn, the village's Rectory and the Swiss reformed church are listed as the Swiss heritage site of national significance. The whole village of Sumiswald is part of Inventory of Swiss Heritage sites. The glass windows of the Church Maryacreah portray beneficiaries with their patron saints.
