One of the largest railway networks of the world, India Railways cover a route of 65,000 km and 7,500 stations carrying over 30 million passengers and 2.8 million tonnes of freight daily. Indian Railway network has over one million employees. Assuming each person supports a family of four that is a total four million people supported by the network, making it the 4th largest employer in the world.
1. Indian Railways to be More Faster and Improved Facilities
Railways are the backbone of India that highly contributes in promoting tourism in the country. Considering the importance of it, Suresh Prabhu, the Railway Minister has announced National Plan for Railways to provide faster trains with modern amenities. The emphasis is on meeting the diverse expectations of society and travelers. The main mission of the railways are 'Mission to have zero accidents', 'Mission on Speed' and 'Mission on accounting reform'. All these missions will improve the condition of railways and travelers will prefer Indian rails for visiting various tourist spots along with convenient medium of travel.
In order to provide speed to trains, he said that Spanish company Talgo is involved to bring their trains on the Delhi-Mumbai route and reduce the time to by 5 hours. The trains will be on experimental basis. Adding further, he said that few trains like Antoday, Humsafar, Tejas, Mahamana, Gatimaan, etc are added to various routes in India. Thus, adequate fund is allocated and research team is set up to make various research and development programs for developing necessary infrastructure. North East rail network will soon have broad gauge railways network in years to come.
