About Kayalpatnam
Kayalpatnam otherwise called Kayalpattinam or Kayalpattanam is a Municipality in Thoothukudi region in the Indian province of Tamil Nadu. Otherwise called Kayal, it is alluded to in Marco Polo's movement journals dating to 1250. Korkai or Kayal was an old port dating to the first hundreds of years of the BC and was contemporaneous to the presence of Kollam, another Pandyan port. Kollam served the Pandyas on the west drift while Korkai/Kayal served them on the east drift associating them to Ceylon and the pearl fisheries in the Gulf of Mannar confronting the Tirunelveli Coast. The old port had exchange associations with Egypt, Rome and Greece
Kayalpatnam has one of the most established Mosques. Noted picture taker Benoy Behl has made a film on Islamic Architecture of India, and he visited this Kayalpatnam Mosque. Most of Muslims here take after Shafiee Madhab with Qadiriyya and Shadhiliya Tariqa Qadiriyya tariqa associated with Mahlara and Shadhiliya tariqa associated with zaviya Faasiyatush shadhiliya Tariqa. Home office of this tariqa in India Zaviathul Fasiyathus shathulia is situated here. There are couple of supporters of ahle hadees too. Maqbara of Hazrat Kazi Syed Alauddin sibling of Hazrat Kazi Syed Tajuddin the fore dad of Madurai Maqbara Hazrats' and of all the Syeds living in Kazimar Street, Madurai is situated here.
