Mohenjodaro

Here lay the ruins of one of the oldest urban civilizations in the world. Situated in the Sind province, the city of Mohenjodaro dates back to 2600 BC and existed at the same time as the early Greek civilization. It is thus sometimes referred as “An Ancient Indus Valley Metropolis”. Recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, Mohenjodaro was the largest city of Indus Valley Civilization.

Rediscovered in the year 1922, the excavations of the site started in the year 1930. They were carried on till 1965 after which excavations were banned as the exposed structures were getting weathered away. All the antique items that were found here are kept in the Mohenjodaro museum. There are clay toys, sculptures, coins and pottery. The most adored of all is the bronze statue of the dancing girl.
