Qasr Amra is an 8th century castle which is situated in the eastern part of the country. At the time of its construction, it was considered to be a major example of Islamic architecture. What stands today is only a small part of the original castle but it reveals a lot about the entire castle, its style, and its inhabitants. Inside one of the chambers, one can see the many frescoes painted on the ceiling which are still clear enough to be understood. The castle was designated as a world Heritage Site by UNESCO in the year 1985. Qasr Amra is situated close to the city of Amman and thus has become an important tourist attraction.
