The beauty of Benbulbin challenges even the most creative of imaginations. The lush green plains abruptly stand up to create a flat peaked mountain that rise up to a height of 526 m. The slope on the northern side of the mountain is very steep because of constant blows from the northerly winds from the Atlantic and is dangerous for any climbing, However the southern side has much more gentle slopes and are optimum for climbing and trekking. It is situated in the county of Sligo which is often referred to as 'Yeat's County' because this was one of his loved destinations.
