Pondicherry Travelogue & Travel Stories – Love at first sight

Pondicherry was always on top in my list of places to visit and wanted to go there once as it took my heart while watching its beauty on internet. Last year in December me and my family were planning to visit somewhere for vacation and finalized Pondicherry. Finally, the moment came to visit my dream place and we booked our Flight, Taxi and Hotel vouchers. The best way to reach Pondicherry is by air only. You have to get down at Chennai airport and take taxi to Pondicherry. So we started our journey from New Delhi and reached Chennai airport in 3 Hours. The excitement to visit Pondicherry does not let me down in 3 hours of flight. As we reached at the airport and collected our baggage, we saw that our taxi was already waiting for us. The taxi was booked for full 3 days and the total cost was Rs. 5,000/- to cover full of our travelling including pickup and drop facility at airport. The taxi service was a 12 hour service with a cost of 130 rupees per hour. We proceeds our journey towards Pondicherry.

As it was December, the weather was amazing and there was little bit of showers. We enjoyed the lovely weather and had a great time travelling to Pondicherry. It took us 3 hours to reach there at our hotel. Our hotel was Hotel Le Royal Park. As we entered in the hotel, it was mesmerizing to watch such beautiful hotel. I get more excited and started clicking photos; ha-ha. We completed our check-in formalities. At the time they were placing our baggage in our room, we were served with towels and welcome drinks to relax ourselves. After taking rest for some time in our room we proceed to explore scenic beauty. We were hungry as well from travelling so we had lunch at Hotel Surguru. It is a vegetarian restaurant and also a very good South Indian hotel. Here we enjoyed Masala Dosa, North Indian thali and Uttapam. I am telling honestly that the food of this hotel was very wonderful and I recommend it to you if you are a vegetarian, then must try it.

First of all we visited Aurobindo Ashram which is located in White Town and it is named after its creator Aurobindo Ghosh. This ashram helps people to find peace and salvation, so many people come here to find peace. This is a fact about this ashram as we also felt so calm and positive visiting there. There are lot of flowers in this ashram and library but taking pictures is not allowed here. But you can do photography outside the ashram. The Ashram is situated in white town and you’ll admire the stunning architecture of the buildings. When you walk on the road of this ashram, you can feel a different experience like you are traveling abroad. When you move a little further on the road of this ashram, then you’ll find a very famous temple and it is one of the top attractions of Pondicherry named as Arulmigu Manakula Vinayagar Temple. This temple is very ancient and beautiful which is dedicated to Lord Ganesha.  If you are going to visit Pondicherry then definitely visit this temple because there is a miraculous statue of Lord Ganesha. After this you can roam out there and experience the beauty of Pondicherry. Later, we visited the church named The Sacred Heart Basilica. This church is considered as one of the most sacred and religious places in Pondicherry. And truly this church represents positivity and its architecture is very unique. After that we explored White Town where the buildings were designed in French style.

Once all the temples and monuments were done we moved towards The Rock Beach. The Black Rocks makes the beach so attractive to watch. We spent a precious time on Rock Beach, playing in sand, water and by clicking a lot of photographs. The beach visit was one of the best moment of our trip. We will never forget the moments as the beach was so astonishing. There were street food stalls on the beach.

On next day, we woke up early in the morning and freshened up. The breakfast at The Hotel Le Royal Park was very delicious and had a lot of variety like North Indian Food, South Indian Food and Chinese Food. Post breakfast, we started our journey in our taxi to Auroville. Auroville depicts natural beauty and if you are a photograph lover then you should visit here. The scenic beauty of this natural place is simply perfect for photography. It is also known as 'Town Universal Town' because people from across the world of all religion and traditions find peace here and calm themselves. This Auroville was founded in 1968 by Aurobindo's disciple Mirra Alfassa.

After that we walked towards the Botanical Garden. The Botanical Garden was very interesting with an aquarium in it with lots of different types of fish. If you are in Pondicherry with children, then definitely visit this place because kids will like it very much. There is also a green house in the Botanical Garden and here you will be able to get information about different types of plants. After botanical Garden, we proceed towards Chunnambar Boat House where we enjoyed boating.

Next, we walked towards Paradise Beach and we had fun there. This beach is one of the best beach of Pondicherry which is very splendid. We stayed here late and left around 8 pm. Before going back to the hotel we had dinner at Dilliwaala6. North Indians usually like spicy food and if you a vegetarian and finding north India food there, then visit this hotel because they serves the authentic North Indian food. Here we enjoyed Veg Biryani, Dal Makhani, Mix Veg, and Raita along with Tandoori Roti. We felt very awesome because we were missing North Indian Food in South and in this restaurant we got delightful North Indian Food. Next day after having breakfast we checked-out from Hotel for airport.

I just want to say that Pondicherry was like a love at first sight. I want to come again to this place because it is so charming that you will forget all the busy schedule of your life and feel the peace and calm yourself. Even in the month of December it was hot in the afternoon, so if you are planning to visit Pondicherry I suggest you to visit here only in December or January month for better experience.
