Asbest

Asbest is a town in Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia, situated on the Bolshoy Reft River right tributary of the Pyshma on the eastern slants of the Ural Mountains, 70 kilometers or 43 mi upper east of Yekaterinburg. The town is named for its asbestos industry. It was established in 1889 as Kudelka. It was allowed town status and given its present name in 1933. Inside the structure of the regulatory divisions, it is, as one with the work settlements of Malysheva and Reftinsky and five rustic territories, joined as the Town of Asbest —an authoritative unit with the status equivalent to that of the districts.

As a civil division, Asbest and two provincial regions are fused as Asbestovsky Urban Okrug. The urban-type settlement of Malysheva, together with three other rustic territories, is fused independently as Malyshevsky Urban Okrug, and the urban-type settlement of Reftinsky is fused independently as Reftinsky Urban Okrug. The present Asbest is a vast modern focus. Business entity Uralasbest is the fundamental mechanical venture. The chrysotile asbestos mine neighboring the town is the subject of distributed, peer-inspected logical examinations and is said to be the world's largest.
