Dukhan is a town within the western municipality of Al-Shahaniya in the State of Qatar. It is about eighty kilometres west of the capital, Doha. Dukhan is administrated via Qatar's nation oil enterprise Qatar Petroleum and is the site of the first oil discovery in Qatar. It became formerly part of Al Rayyan municipality. All the commercial operations inside the town are administrated by the Dukhan Operations Department. A special permit from Qatar Petroleum, inside the shape of a Dukhan entry gate skip, is required for access to the town.
A four-lane toll road connects Doha with Dukhan. Oil exploration in the Dukhan area started in 1935. In 1937, oil turned into struck in Dukhan; making it the first significant oil reserve to be determined in the peninsula. Construction on Dukhan's first oil nicely began in 1939 and was finished the next 12 months. The authentic agreement become constructed as an oil camp for employees of the Qatar Petroleum Company. Oil operations were temporarily close down at some point of World War II.
