Alifushi is one of the occupied islands of Raa Atoll. Alifushi and Etthingili were named as the Powell Islands by Captain Robert Moresby after Lieutenant F.F. Powell, who helped amid the troublesome study of the Atolls of the Maldives in 1834-36. Later elevated to Captain, Powell proceeded to overview the northwest bank of Ceylon.
