Anandwan

Anandvan literally means forest of happiness. Anandvan is a peaceful ashram located 5 kms from Warora in Chandrapur district in Maharashtra. It is also a community rehabilitation center, started for leprosy patients and the poor disabled people. Founded in 1952 by the social activist Baba Amte, the project is run today by the organization Maharogi Seva Samiti.

Anandvan is a self contained ashram, with majority of residents indulged in agriculture for livelihood. The land fertility is made proper by the work of leprosy patients and the organic farming techniques, along with micro water management. There are home based, small industry units run by the residents.

The community does a lot for the environment such as energy utilization, waste recycling and minimizing the use of natural resources which would otherwise get depleted. There are hospitals, colleges, blind schools and other special schools in Anandvan now. There are places of tourist interest one cannot miss.
