About Mangani festival

The festivals occurred at the Vedapureeswarar sanctuary here on Tuesday. The Mangani celebration is praised on the full moon day in the Tamil month of Aani. A chariot enriched with mangoes was taken in parade around the sanctuary and mangoes and rava kesari were circulated to all enthusiasts, the authority said.

As indicated by the legend, Karaikal Ammaiyar was born as Punidhavathy. One day, her better half gave her two mangoes and she gave one away to a hungry Sanyasi. When her significant other requested the second mango, she looked for the assistance of Lord Siva and a mango dropped into her hands. The mango that Punidhavathy had gotten through her commitment vanished the second he touched it, one of the sanctuary authorities disclosed to the Hindu.
