DurgaPuja, also called Durgotsava is an annual Hindu festival which celebrates worship of the Hindu goddess Durga. The main days observed here are Mahalaya, Shashthi, MahaSaptami, MahaAshtami, MahaNabami and Vijayadashami. Durga Puja festival is celebrated from the sixth to tenth day of the lunar fortnight in the month of Ashvin. This period of the festival is also known as the Devi Paksha. Devi Paksha is preceded by Mahalaya, and ashtami falls on the eigth day after Mahalaya.
