About Richterswil
Richterswil is a municipality within the district of Horgen inside the canton of Zurich in Switzerland. Richterswil is first noted in 1265 as Richtliswile. During the seventeenth Century, a chain of peasant revolts broke out across Switzerland. One of those revolts, the 1645/46 Wadenswiler Steueraufstand, befell around Lake Zurich and concerned the village of Richterswil. The Richterswiler Weibel Rudolf Goldschmid became one of the leaders of the rebellion who was completed in Zurich following the failure of the rebellion. During the first Villmergen war Richterswil became invaded by using an army from Schwyz. During the second one Villmergen struggle, the newly built fortifications above the city, avoided every other invasion.
Under the French set up Helvetic Republic Richterswil became a part of the District of Horgen, and had a better tax charge than surrounding villages. As part of this higher tax, throughout the War of the Second Coalition, it turned into forced to residence French troops. Following the unsuccessful uprising in 1804 in opposition to Zurich, Richterswil turned into punished significantly. From 1803-1831 it turned into a part of the District of Wadenswil, but due to the fact that 1831 has belonged to the District of Horgen. Since 1831, Samstagern has been a part of the municipality Richterswil. In 1869 most people of residents of Richterswil voted towards the new democratic cantonal constitution.
