It is a Local Government Area in Kano State, Nigeria. Its central command are in the town of Gaya in the north of the area. It has a region of 613 km² and a populace of 201,016 at the 2006 registration.
The conventional leader of Gaya is known as the Sarkin Gaya. The present Sarkin Gaya, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya conceived in 1930 has been on the position of royalty since his arrangement in 1990. Alhaji Ibrahim Gaya was already the area head of Kunchi and afterward Minjibir. It filled in as an essential end of a transitory hallway through which there was a flood of moving people groups particularly from Eastern Sudan, the Maghrib and the Middle East.
