Thane

Thane is the most populous metropolitan city in India. It lies on the north-western side of Maharashtra. It is surrounded by Yeoor Hills and Pansik Hills. Thane is located on Salsetle island. It is the suburb of Mumbai. It falls on the northern district of Konkan region.

Thane is also known as Thana.  It is also known as the “city of lakes”; having thirty-three lakes in the city. Thane was the terminus for first ever passenger train in Asia. The original name of Thane is Sristhanka, named after the god Ganapati or Lord Ganapati. Thane is an industrial city and the rise of the industrialism was in the year 60’s and 70’s. Thane has number of industries of chemicals and engineering and textile background.  

Thane city is the largest among the three municipal corporations that form Thane taluka, one of the seven talukas of the Thane district. Thane enjoys the climate of tropical monsoon climate. The best time to visit this place is in the month of November to March.
