Often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Konkan Region', Panvel is located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. It is an old palace and one of the earliest known settlements that dates back to 3000 years ago. All the new developments in Panvel are now a part of New Panvel and are planned under the aegis of Navi Mumbai. It is encompassed by small mountains from three sides. There are several old buildings and havelis in Panvel and it was a wealthy city during the colonial period and Peshawahis. Other important sites to be visited in Panvel include The Karnala Fort, Varadavinayaka Temple, Balaeshwar Pali Temple, The Elephanta Caves and Haji Malang.

Getting to Panvel
Mumbai International Airport is the nearest airport located at Mumbai and is approximately located at a distance of 50 kilometers. Taxi cabs ply between Mumbai airport and Panvel.
Panvel Railway Station has regular train services and around 11 trains pass through this station and stops at Panvel Railway Station from time to time.
The Sion-Panvel Highway connects Mumbai to Daman. The journey via road will approximately take around 1 hour. State transport buses offer regular bus services which connects Panvel to Mumbai, Pune and Navi Mumbai.
