In the Hindi Month of Shravan millions of Kanwarias, or the devotees of Lord Shiva, from almost all Indian states make a journey to Haridwar, Gangotri and Gomukh in Uttarakhand to collect ‘Ganga Jal’ or holy water from Ganges to bathe the Shivling at their homes and villages. The holy water they collect from River Ganga is used to bathe the Shivalingam on the Amavasi day in Shravan month or on the Mas Shivratri day.
