About Noakhali
Noakhali is a district in South-eastern Bangladesh. It is situated in the Chittagong Division. Noakhali area, whose prior name was Bhulua, was set up in 1821. It was named Noakhali in 1868. Noakhali District is circumscribed by Comilla region toward the north, the Meghna estuary and the Bay of Bengal toward the south, Feni and Chittagong regions toward the east and Lakshmipur and Bhola area toward the west. The district has a territory of 4,202 km².
The district speaks to a broad level, waterfront and delta arrive, situated on the tidal floodplain of the Meghna River delta, portrayed by level land and low alleviation. The antiquated name of Noakhali is Bhulua. During the 1660s, the agrarian exercises of the north-eastern district of Bhulua were truly influenced by floodwater of the Dakatia River spilling out of the Tripura slopes. To rescue the circumstance, a trench was dove in 1660 that kept running from the Dakatia through Ramganj, Sonaimuri and Chaumuhani to redirect water stream to the intersection of the waterway Meghna and Feni.
In the wake of unearthing this long waterway, Bhulua started to be known as "Noakhali". The name "Noakhali" was started from the term Noa New and Khal Canal. Noakhali town, the central station of Noakhali, got vanished in the stream bed in 1951, because of disintegration of powerful Meghna. After that the home office of Noakhali was built up at Maijdee. In 1964, Sadar Sub-division was separated into two sub-divisions to be specific Sadar and Lakshmipur.
