About Rye
Rye is a city and town which is located on Long Island Sound, in Westchester district, southeastern New York, U.S. The first town site, at Pendingo Neck, was first settled 1660 by an organization of men from Greenwich, Connecticut, who had acquired the land from the Siwanoy Indians; they named it 1665 for Rye in Sussex, England. The Village of Rye, which was independently fused in 1904 and right now a well known shoreline resort, grew quickly as a private suburb of New York City with the coming of trolley autos and passenger trains; it was sanctioned as a city in 1942. Its Square House was a ceasing place on the old Boston Post Road.
