Mississippi is a southern U.S. state with the Mississippi River to its west, the territory of Alabama to its east, and the Gulf of Mexico toward the south. Its Mississippi Delta district is viewed as the origin of blues music, respected at the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale. William Faulkner's 1840s Greek Revival home, Rowan Oak, is in the city of Oxford.
