About Szemud
Szemud is a large Kashubian village located in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, within the Wejherowo poviat, in the Szemud commune on the provincial road No. 224. The royal village inside the Gdansk poviat of the Pomeranian Voivodeship within the second half of the 16th century. In the years 1975 to 1998, the town changed into administratively a part of the Gdansk province. The village is the seat of the Szemud commune and the Roman Catholic parish, belonging to the Kielno deanery, the Archdiocese of Gdansk. The first mention of the village comes from 1311.
In the 16th and 17th centuries, the villages were rented with the aid of Gdansk patricians: the Ferber own family and von der Linde, accompanied by using the Wejher and Lebinski families. In the past, the call changed into Szynwald. 146 kids attended the Catholic college in 1887. The parish in 1890 had 1,454 people. German name from the length of career and profession Schonwald. In June 1944, individuals of the Gryf Pomorski killed the German forester Scharf from Kamien. In retaliation, the Germans shot around 20 hostages from most of the locals, including Jan Libon, partisans from the TOW Gryf Pomorski unit, commanded via Lieutenant.
