Oostburg

Oostburg is a town inside the south-western Netherlands. It is the biggest metropolis in the municipality of Sluis, within the province of Zeeland. As of one January 2015, its populace is 4731, down from 5008 in January 2005. It acquired town rights in 1237. Before 1 January 2003, Oostburg changed into also the name of a municipality. It merged with Sluis-Aardenburg to shape the brand new municipality of Sluis. The municipality covered a place of 224.Ninety three km², of which 1.05 km² was water. Oostburg's symbol is the unicorn, from which the townsfolk are stated to derive power and courage.

In reality, the unicorn's presence is represented through a sculpture produced with the aid of the sculptress Liesbeth Messer-Heijbroek who for many years, together with her husband, lived in the place: she naturally took concept from the name of a former lodge. The sculpture has been repositioned at least as soon as since it first appeared during the length postwar reconstruction in 1952, and at one degree decorated a small automobile park. Currently it stocks with a contemporary fountain a spot in "Eenhoornplantsoen" beyond the northern end of the vintage market rectangular within the town centre.
