Orizaba

Orizaba is a city and municipality in the Mexican nation of Veracruz. It is placed 20 km west of its sister city Cordoba, and is adjoining to Rio Blanco and Ixtaczoquitlan, on Federal Highways one hundred eighty and a hundred ninety. The town had a 2005 census populace of 117,273 and is sort of coextensive with its small municipality, with only a few small regions outside the city. The municipality's population become 117,289 and it has a place of 27.97 km².

It is generally understood that the call Orizaba comes from a Hispanicized pronunciation of the Nahuatl name Ahuilizapan, because of this "valley of glad waters." Another possibility, but, is the phrase Harish, this vicinity being the hometown of the first Spanish settlers of Orizaba. Harish or in a simplified form Ariz, with the addition of the gentilic "i" and/or with the finishing "aba", which means fortification, might have become Ariziba or Arizaba, from which Orizaba could have derived.
