About Othera Patayani

Othara Patayani is a ten day yearly celebration held in the Puthukulangara Devi Temple in Pathanamthitta area. The celebration is set apart by the introduction of Patayani, a lively custom craftsmanship form. One of the features of this celebration is the presence of the Bhairavi Kolam which is made of 1001 painted areca nut fronds and it makes for a fabulous occasion amid the festival.

The Patayani execution begins with the thumping of the Thappu drums, a Patayani percussion instrument. This is trailed by ceremonies, for example, Pula move and Thavadi. It is one of the famous festival in Kerala.
