Graham, North Carolina didn't turn into a city formally until 1961. It gets its name from William Alexander Graham, a U.S. Congressperson from North Carolina who moved toward becoming legislative leader of the state in 1845. The City of Graham has an intriguing history encompassing its birthplaces. Graham is situated in the immediate focal point of Alamance County. This happened because of the choice to part Orange County. In the mid 1800's Orange County was made out of both present day Alamance and Orange Counties. A few people trusted that the province was too expansive and chosen to part the area in two, making Alamance County.
