About Basalt
Basalt, Colorado, appreciates gold award fly-angling on both the Fryingpan and Roaring Fork waterways. The intersection of the two waterways is the site of seven enormous furnaces worked in the late nineteenth century to make charcoal for close-by Aspen. Situated on the western slant of the Rockies, the territory is a year-round excursion goal for fishermen and experience sports sweethearts.
Basalt was first named Ute Junction, after the Junction it served referred to around then as Ute City that served display day Aspen Colorado. It was an outstanding Railroad Junction, going West and South to Carbondale and Glenwood Springs. Served first by the Midland Railroad, a thin Gauge Railroad in 1901 purchased out by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad.
