About Niederdorfelden
Niederdorfelden is a municipality in the East Hesse Main Kinzig district. The district of Niederdorfelden became also populated in prehistoric times. These dwellings had been nicely above the present day village inside the direction of the Great and the Little Lohe. The Roman street from Friedberg to the fort Salisberg at Hanau Kesselstadt crossed the Nidder at Niederdorfelden. The oldest preserved written mention of Niederdorfelden comes from the Lorsch Codex, a duplicate of the monastery Lorsch and dates to the year 784.
Another record from the year 792 assigns it to the Niddagau. From the 12th century, a noble circle of relatives, the lords of Dorfelden, detectable. They owned the fortress Dorfelden, a moated citadel, of which these days only a few remains of partitions and towers can be seen. It turned into built in the 13th century at the elongated island between Nidder and Muhlgraben inside the Aide Nidder. The completely surrounding moat is sort of completely preserved. After the extinction of the neighboring circle of relatives of the Lords of Buchen, the lords of Dorfelden inherited their possessions on the Kinzig in Hanau and additionally transferred the heavyweight of their coverage there.
