Ranikhet is at an altitude of 1869 meters from sea level, Ranikhet meaning in Hindi is Queen’s meadow, gets its name from a local legend, Raja Sudhardev won the heart of his queen Rani Padmini, who subsequently chose the area for her residence, giving it the name Ranikhet, although no palace exists in the area. Army Museum situated in Ranikhet Maintained by the Kumaon and the Naga Regiment of the Army, the Museum has a remarkable collection ranging from story of the heroics of the First World War till date.
