Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is the major tourist attraction where you will see herds of abandoned elephants taken care off with tender love and protection. it has the greatest herd of elephants in captivity in the world It was established in 1975 by the Department of Wildlife Conservation on a 25-acre (10 ha) coconut plantation on the Maha Oya river. The orphanage was originally founded in order to afford care and protection to the many orphaned elephants found in the jungle. You can catch the elephant bathing and feeding time at about 11 am , a more interesting activity. Enjoy the elephant back ride along local rode in Pinnawala.
