Dambulla cave temple about 200steps dating back to the 1st century BC, this is the most impressive cave temple of Asia. It has five caves under a vast overhanging rock, carved with a drip line to keep interiors dry. In 1983 the architectures was embellished with arched colonnades and gabled entrance. Inside the cave the ceiling are painted with intricate patterns of religious images following contours of the rock. There are images of the Lord Buddha and Bodhisattvas and ious God and Goddesses. After being fed, the baby turtles are taken to the sea and released when they are 2-4 days old, usually during the safer hours of darkness. Although October to April is the main laying season, some eggs can be found at Kosgoda throughout the year.
